How Can Online Therapy Help Anxiety?

How Can Online Therapy Help Anxiety

Feeling anxious occasionally is normal and can actually be beneficial sometimes (like right before you take a test), but chronic feelings of anxiety can severely impact quality of life and daily functioning. Whether you are newly anxious or have suffered from anxiety for a while, there is help—and you don’t even have to leave your house.

Since the start of COVID-19, counseling services have had to move to online rather than in-person, which understandably can stir up anxious feelings on its own. But, while it might feel a little different, online therapy can be just as beneficial in treating anxiety as in-person visits.

1.) Online Therapy Is Done Where You Are Comfortable

When receiving counseling services online, you choose the best location to do the call. You can do the session from the comfort of your bed, couch, favorite chair, or backyard. It is YOUR choice. You can stack up pillows behind you, cover yourself in your favorite blanket, or have a pet close by. The more comfortable we are the better we tend to feel about opening up and sharing.

2.) Online Therapy Saves Time

If you don’t have to factor in travel time or finding childcare you might be more willing to get the help you need. Online therapy saves time because you can do it anywhere. No rush hour, no stoplights, and no phone calls to babysitters. And, if you have more time you might be able to make more sessions, further assisting in your healing process.

3.) Online Therapy Helps Keep You Healthy

Leaving your home, especially during a global pandemic, can be stressful and anxiety-inducing. Having the ability to do your therapy sessions without going out into the world not only makes it easier to get the help you need, but it also reduces your exposure to potential viruses.

4.) Online Therapy Can Give You Tools

Anxiety can be managed in a variety of ways. It doesn’t matter if your session is online or in-person, a licensed counselor can help teach you the tools that will work best for your life. Counselors can work with you to control negative thinking, build confidence, overcome obstacles, manage stress, and set goals. Our counselors use evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.

5.) Online Therapy Gives You More Access

The beautiful thing about not having to travel to complete a therapy session is you have more options. You can, and should, find the therapist that you feel most comfortable talking to. It doesn’t matter if you are located in Lancaster, Harrisburg, State College, Pittsburgh, Williamsport or anywhere in the state of Pennsylvania, you can receive care from Move Forward’s therapists.
