Hi! My name is Theresa Fry (she/her), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Temple University. Since 2015, I have experience in a variety of inpatient and outpatient mental health settings. Additionally, I’ve also worked in child welfare services, immigration & customs enforcement, and addiction settings.
My biggest passion is to help others, and I am so grateful that I am able to engage with that passion as a Counselor. Through my own journey, I have experienced challenges and frustration in managing life stressors that we encounter in life’s journey.
I counsel children (aged six and older), teens, young adults, and adults for a variety of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, adjustments to life transitions, suicidal ideation, self-harm, and trauma & PTSD. I also offer therapy for anger management, behavioral issues, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder (BPD), addiction, family conflict, grief, LGBTQIA+, parenting issues, Oppositional Defiance (ODD), postpartum, self-harm, stress, self-esteem, sexual abuse, and suicidal ideation.
My goal is to offer you a safe space to express yourself authentically. I am here to help you help yourself. I do not have all the answers, but I am here to guide you as you find solutions within yourself through nonjudgment, active listening, support, and encouragement.
I believe everyone struggles from time to time, and extra support through therapy can be the key to navigating through a difficult time. Each person is unique in their feelings and emotions, and I’ll tailor therapy needs based on your needs and goals. I believe in meeting you where you are in your journey. Whether you are ambivalent about making a change, ready to make a change, or need help to support you in maintaining your goals, I will help provide insight and motivation to empower you to move forward.
Everyone is unique in their journey and my specialties and techniques can help guide us. I am trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for PTSD and trauma. In addition, I specialize in Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered, and Strengths-Based Therapy. I also utilize a combination of different models of goal-oriented interventions that I will tailor to you. These include aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Emotionally Focused Relationship Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Play Therapy, Psychodynamic, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).
Having support through therapy can be the key to making strides toward goals and making and sustaining change. I hope we have the opportunity to work together toward your wellness goals at a pace that is comfortable for you. Reach out to scheduling if you think we might be a good fit.
A good work/life balance is a strong priority of mine, so in my free time, I like to enjoy the outdoors when the weather is nice. I spend most of my time with my family, my dog (Apollo), and friends.

Theresa Fry offers in-person therapy at the State College, PA, office and online therapy sessions for anyone in Pennsylvania.
Whether you are suffering from panic attacks, obsessive – compulsive disorder, or generalized anxiety we have therapists who use evidenced-based treatments, such as cognitive-bahavioral therapy, to help you.
Caregiving for a loved one can be challenging even in the best of circumstances. Often we don’t think about how the caregiver needs support, too. If you are experiencing burnout, our therapists can teach you skills to help you cope.
Depression and anxiety are extremely common, but often under-diagnosed by medical providers during pregnancy and postpartum. Our providers have specialized training to help women with anxiety and depression in this specific period in their lives.
Depression, one of the most common mental health disorders, is very treatable. Our therapists are specially trained to help individuals with depression get back to feeling like themselves again.
Life transitions encompass many things, including starting or ending a romantic relationship, changes with work or school or making any big life change, such as a move. Often we underestimate how these changes will affect us emotionally until we find ourselves struggling with the ups and downs of the life transition.
Move Forward Counseling is an inclusive practice where we want the LGBTQIA+ community to feel welcome and supported. Whether you are unsure how to embrace your identity, are having relationship issues, or need extra support from a non-judgmental person, we have therapists who can help.
While we don’t provide couples counseling at Move Forward, many individuals seek counseling to discuss how they can have healthier relationships. Our therapists can help you learn new ways of communicating, setting boundaries, and other ways to have more positive relationships with others.
It is important to understand that everyone’s experience with substance use is different; therefore, symptoms and consequences can differ. The levels of treatment also differ based on your usage and whether you seek support for substance use or have been diagnosed with an SUD.
Moving into adulthood brings its own set of challenges. You may feel pressure to have a “career” or find your life partner. You may be unsure of making these big life decisions and may feel lost because you no longer have school or other adults in your life telling you what you should choose.
Being a kid can be difficult sometimes. It’s a crucial developmental period of growth and change during which children learn about the world and themselves. This can be overwhelming to some children since many are still learning all the tools and skills to help them cope with their emotions and life’s stressors. This is where therapy can provide support.
The period of adolescence can be exciting, but also challenging for many teens. Difficulties with friends, school, anxiety, depression, cutting, and substance abuse are all common issues for this group. Due to a lack of life experience, teens may not know how to manage these problems which is why therapy can be especially helpful.
Trauma symptoms and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can be debilitating for many who experience it. Recovery from trauma is possible and we have therapists who can help.
Reach out today to get started. Our supportive staff will help guide you through the scheduling process, discuss special requests and consult your insurance needs.
