Hi, I’m Sara (she/her), a licensed professional counselor (LPC).
I’ve worked in mental health for ten years and consider it a privilege to help you through some of your life’s most challenging moments.
I graduated with my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University in 2015. Before that, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh in 2011.
I have worked in various settings, from helping students better learn when addressing their emotional needs to providing family reunification services to people who have been formerly incarcerated. I enjoyed working with college students at Chatham’s Office of Career Development, helping them explore their personality strengths, prepare for their career options, and craft goals that excited them for their future.
Most recently, I’ve been in an outpatient setting for almost ten years, and my ideal clients to work with are college students, the healthcare community, adults across the lifespan, and couples.
I have experience and a passion for working with clients through a faith-based lens, including Christian counseling, healing from spiritual trauma, or deconstruction. I also enjoy working with clients living with anxiety, depression, disordered eating, body image, self-esteem struggles, relationship or workplace difficulties, and those walking through grief.
I am a certified SYMBIS (Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts) facilitator. I provide premarital counseling to ensure you’re at your best when entering that exciting phase of life!
Everyone has different needs and ways of relating to themselves and others. My modalities include a person-centered approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). And while laughter isn’t an official therapeutic style, incorporating humor when appropriate can lighten the load and offer a refreshing perspective!
It takes a lot of vulnerability and courage to seek help when you are struggling, so I don’t take it lightly when a new client walks through my door. If you recognize that something is missing or things could be better, we can work to help you connect the dots on how to make those changes happen. I enjoy collaborating with my clients and creating a space to ask questions together to lead us to a deeper understanding of any root beliefs that result in feeling stuck. Together, we can untangle those thoughts and feelings to develop a positive path forward.
I love all things Pittsburgh and getting to enjoy the city’s offerings with friends and family—exploring coffee shops, walking across bridges, and catching a concert or trivia night (The Office is my specialty!). My current favorite things are “out and back” trips (flying to a new city for a day), listening to audiobooks while hiking, having fresh-cut flowers at all times, and sharing a meal around the table or campfire.

Whether you are suffering from panic attacks, obsessive – compulsive disorder, or generalized anxiety we have therapists who use evidenced-based treatments, such as cognitive-bahavioral therapy, to help you.
Many individuals feel like they are at war with their bodies. Whether it’s feeling shame, guilt, or giving ourselves critical comments about our bodies, we can be our own worst enemy. Our therapists can help you feel at peace with your body and learn to be kind to yourself.
Caregiving for a loved one can be challenging even in the best of circumstances. Often we don’t think about how the caregiver needs support, too. If you are experiencing burnout, our therapists can teach you skills to help you cope.
Depression, one of the most common mental health disorders, is very treatable. Our therapists are specially trained to help individuals with depression get back to feeling like themselves again.
Life transitions encompass many things, including starting or ending a romantic relationship, changes with work or school or making any big life change, such as a move. Often we underestimate how these changes will affect us emotionally until we find ourselves struggling with the ups and downs of the life transition.
While we don’t provide couples counseling at Move Forward, many individuals seek counseling to discuss how they can have healthier relationships. Our therapists can help you learn new ways of communicating, setting boundaries, and other ways to have more positive relationships with others.
Trauma symptoms and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can be debilitating for many who experience it. Recovery from trauma is possible and we have therapists who can help.
Moving into adulthood brings its own set of challenges. You may feel pressure to have a “career” or find your life partner. You may be unsure of making these big life decisions and may feel lost because you no longer have school or other adults in your life telling you what you should choose.
The period of adolescence can be exciting, but also challenging for many teens. Difficulties with friends, school, anxiety, depression, cutting, and substance abuse are all common issues for this group. Due to a lack of life experience, teens may not know how to manage these problems which is why therapy can be especially helpful.
Move Forward Counseling is an inclusive practice where we want the LGBTQIA+ community to feel welcome and supported. Whether you are unsure how to embrace your identity, are having relationship issues, or need extra support from a non-judgmental person, we have therapists who can help.
Depression and anxiety are extremely common, but often under-diagnosed by medical providers during pregnancy and postpartum. Our providers have specialized training to help women with anxiety and depression in this specific period in their lives.
Reach out today to get started. Our supportive staff will help guide you through the scheduling process, discuss special requests and consult your insurance needs.
