Hello, I am Alyssa Madigan, LPC (she/her), a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Clinical Supervisor for the MFC State College therapy team. Welcome to my bio page!
Thank you for taking the first step in finding a therapist. Whether you’re here because you’re seeking help or simply exploring options for mental health support, I’m glad you’ve taken the first step toward finding the support you deserve. The decision to seek therapy is courageous, and I’m here to help guide you through this process with compassion and expertise.
I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mount Aloysius College in 2021. I have been counseling since 2019, and my specialty is helping people struggling with substance abuse disorder and mental illness. I strive to help people gain insight into their struggles and become the best version of themselves.
During therapy, I incorporate treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Strength-Based Therapy, and Person-Centered Therapy. I will utilize some Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT-Informed) in some instances. The type of therapy I apply will be based on what we discover about you during our sessions!
I counsel adults (18+), young adults, teens (13-17), and Adolescent/Preteen (9-12), struggling with addiction, as an Adult Child of an Addict (ACOA), anger, anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), codependency, depression, gambling problems, grief, personality disorders (PD), relationship issues, self-esteem, caregiver stress, life transitions, sexual addiction, stress, trauma and PTSD, and more.
In our first session, we’ll introduce ourselves and begin to develop a rapport. You’ll help me understand what makes you feel comfortable during sessions. Afterwards, we will identify specific challenges you’re facing and create a game plan on how to tackle the challenges. This will help us work together to plan what to focus on during follow-up sessions. Don’t worry if you’re not sure. We’ll move at a pace that feels right for you.
As your therapist, my primary goal is to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I’m here to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing, self-discovery, and personal growth. Every person is unique, and my approach will be tailored to meet your needs and goals.
While my work as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) is incredibly fulfilling and much of my time is dedicated to it, I believe in the importance of balance and self-care, both for my own benefit and that of my clients. Outside of counseling, I engage in a variety of activities that help me recharge, stay grounded, and maintain a healthy work-life balance. I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and cats!
Reach out to scheduling if you think we might be a good match.

Whether you are suffering from panic attacks, obsessive – compulsive disorder, or generalized anxiety we have therapists who use evidenced-based treatments, such as cognitive-bahavioral therapy, to help you.
Depression and anxiety are extremely common, but often under-diagnosed by medical providers during pregnancy and postpartum. Our providers have specialized training to help women with anxiety and depression in this specific period in their lives.
Depression, one of the most common mental health disorders, is very treatable. Our therapists are specially trained to help individuals with depression get back to feeling like themselves again.
Life transitions encompass many things, including starting or ending a romantic relationship, changes with work or school or making any big life change, such as a move. Often we underestimate how these changes will affect us emotionally until we find ourselves struggling with the ups and downs of the life transition.
While we don’t provide couples counseling at Move Forward, many individuals seek counseling to discuss how they can have healthier relationships. Our therapists can help you learn new ways of communicating, setting boundaries, and other ways to have more positive relationships with others.
Moving into adulthood brings its own set of challenges. You may feel pressure to have a “career” or find your life partner. You may be unsure of making these big life decisions and may feel lost because you no longer have school or other adults in your life telling you what you should choose.
The period of adolescence can be exciting, but also challenging for many teens. Difficulties with friends, school, anxiety, depression, cutting, and substance abuse are all common issues for this group. Due to a lack of life experience, teens may not know how to manage these problems which is why therapy can be especially helpful.
Being a kid can be difficult sometimes. It’s a crucial developmental period of growth and change during which children learn about the world and themselves. This can be overwhelming to some children since many are still learning all the tools and skills to help them cope with their emotions and life’s stressors. This is where therapy can provide support.
Reach out today to get started. Our supportive staff will help guide you through the scheduling process, discuss special requests and consult your insurance needs.
