Hello, my name is Alexis Lehr (she/her), an MFC Intern Therapist completing my Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Lock Haven University.
I earned a Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Health with a focus on Addictions Counseling from Alvernia University. With five years of experience in inpatient drug and alcohol treatment, I have gained valuable insight into substance use disorders, the recovery process, and the understanding that everyone’s journey to sobriety is unique and multifaceted.
Additionally, I have supported residents and their families at a skilled nursing facility, helping them navigate major life transitions, caregiver stress, coping, hospice, and end-of-life issues. This experience has honed my ability to offer compassionate and tailored support, meeting people where they’re at with empathy and understanding.
Above all, I value the therapeutic relationship and the strides that can be made in therapy when nurtured. I firmly believe that personhood, a sense of belonging, and worthiness are a birthright and not something to be earned. My goal is to validate your identity, your intersectionality, and your unique lived experiences as I recognize that even in sameness, there are differences.
I utilize a strengths-based and client-centered therapeutic approach to therapy. I firmly believe you are the expert on your own life, and I value your perspective, your vision for the work we do, and the pace at which we move. I will always support your autonomy within therapy and will be happy not to utilize a tool or an approach that does not sit right with you.
That said, I often utilize different techniques in therapy, including Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Humanistic Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Feminist Therapy, and Mindfulness. I also incorporate elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), Positive Psychology, and Trauma-Focused therapy.
I am also:
I offer counseling to children (6+), teens, young adults, adults, and older adults (65+) for many mental health challenges, including substance use, being adult child of an addict, anger, anxiety, attachment issues, relationships, body image, chronic pain/illness, depression, self-control, grief, LGBTQIA+, life transitions, post-bariatric surgery, self-harm, caregiver stress, spirituality, sports performance, technology addiction, sexual addiction, and suicidal ideation.
I look forward to the opportunity to learn about where you are in your journey.

Whether you are suffering from panic attacks, obsessive – compulsive disorder, or generalized anxiety we have therapists who use evidenced-based treatments, such as cognitive-bahavioral therapy, to help you.
Many individuals feel like they are at war with their bodies. Whether it’s feeling shame, guilt, or giving ourselves critical comments about our bodies, we can be our own worst enemy. Our therapists can help you feel at peace with your body and learn to be kind to yourself.
Caregiving for a loved one can be challenging even in the best of circumstances. Often we don’t think about how the caregiver needs support, too. If you are experiencing burnout, our therapists can teach you skills to help you cope.
Depression, one of the most common mental health disorders, is very treatable. Our therapists are specially trained to help individuals with depression get back to feeling like themselves again.
Life transitions encompass many things, including starting or ending a romantic relationship, changes with work or school or making any big life change, such as a move. Often we underestimate how these changes will affect us emotionally until we find ourselves struggling with the ups and downs of the life transition.
While we don’t provide couples counseling at Move Forward, many individuals seek counseling to discuss how they can have healthier relationships. Our therapists can help you learn new ways of communicating, setting boundaries, and other ways to have more positive relationships with others.
Moving into adulthood brings its own set of challenges. You may feel pressure to have a “career” or find your life partner. You may be unsure of making these big life decisions and may feel lost because you no longer have school or other adults in your life telling you what you should choose.
Being a kid can be difficult sometimes. It’s a crucial developmental period of growth and change during which children learn about the world and themselves. This can be overwhelming to some children since many are still learning all the tools and skills to help them cope with their emotions and life’s stressors. This is where therapy can provide support.
The period of adolescence can be exciting, but also challenging for many teens. Difficulties with friends, school, anxiety, depression, cutting, and substance abuse are all common issues for this group. Due to a lack of life experience, teens may not know how to manage these problems which is why therapy can be especially helpful.
Move Forward Counseling is an inclusive practice where we want the LGBTQIA+ community to feel welcome and supported. Whether you are unsure how to embrace your identity, are having relationship issues, or need extra support from a non-judgmental person, we have therapists who can help.
Are you struggling with finding a way to come out to family or friends? Have you come out and felt rejected or misunderstood? Are you struggling to understand your own identity? Do you struggle with anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues? Do you need someone to talk to who understands? If any of these describe you, we can help!
Reach out today to get started. Our supportive staff will help guide you through the scheduling process, discuss special requests and consult your insurance needs.
