Hi! I am Katie Mauro (she/they), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have two roles at Move Forward Counseling: Program Director of the Eating Disorder Program and an outpatient Therapist.
As the Clinical Director of the Eating Disorder Program, I’m committed to shaping the clinical vision rooted in connection, curiosity, and compassion. I work closely with our team to foster a program grounded in authenticity and respect, where clients feel genuinely seen and supported, as well as challenged.
My goal is to cultivate an environment where healing is collaborative, evidence‑informed, and deeply human—one that empowers each person to move toward recovery with dignity, hope, and a true sense of belonging.
I specialize in working with people aged 16 and older who struggle with body image, disordered eating, anxiety, and the exhausting cycle of overthinking. My clients are often insightful and self-aware but find themselves stuck- unable to express their needs, set boundaries, or feel truly present in their lives. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out alone.
Body Trust Certified
I am a Body Trust Certified therapist. As someone who believes therapy should feel like a safe, honest, and even occasionally humorous space to get real, we’ll explore what’s brought you to therapy and what’s holding you back. BTC allows us to have deeper conversations around our bodies, food, weight, and health from a social justice and trauma-informed lens.
Non-Monogamy
I also specialize in supporting those navigating the complexities of non-monogamy through work in boundaries, assertiveness, communication, and navigating jealousy.
LGBTQIA+
I offer a welcoming space for therapy for people in the LGBTQIA+ community.
My style is casual, compassionate, and direct. I bring authenticity to every session, blending evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with an eclectic, body-trusting lens that honors your lived experience. Clients often tell me I am easy to talk to, that they appreciate my perspective, and that they feel genuinely supported and challenged in our work.
I know first-hand how hard it can be to listen to your body’s needs, especially in a world that constantly tells you to ignore them. I also know that honoring those needs, even imperfectly, is a radical act of self-love.
If you are ready to stop shrinking yourself, emotionally or physically, and start showing up fully in life, I’d love to connect.

Whether you are suffering from panic attacks, obsessive – compulsive disorder, or generalized anxiety we have therapists who use evidenced-based treatments, such as cognitive-bahavioral therapy, to help you.
Many individuals feel like they are at war with their bodies. Whether it’s feeling shame, guilt, or giving ourselves critical comments about our bodies, we can be our own worst enemy. Our therapists can help you feel at peace with your body and learn to be kind to yourself.
Caregiving for a loved one can be challenging even in the best of circumstances. Often we don’t think about how the caregiver needs support, too. If you are experiencing burnout, our therapists can teach you skills to help you cope.
Depression, one of the most common mental health disorders, is very treatable. Our therapists are specially trained to help individuals with depression get back to feeling like themselves again.
Move Forward Counseling is an inclusive practice where we want the LGBTQIA+ community to feel welcome and supported. Whether you are unsure how to embrace your identity, are having relationship issues, or need extra support from a non-judgmental person, we have therapists who can help.
Life transitions encompass many things, including starting or ending a romantic relationship, changes with work or school or making any big life change, such as a move. Often we underestimate how these changes will affect us emotionally until we find ourselves struggling with the ups and downs of the life transition.
While we don’t provide couples counseling at Move Forward, many individuals seek counseling to discuss how they can have healthier relationships. Our therapists can help you learn new ways of communicating, setting boundaries, and other ways to have more positive relationships with others.
Moving into adulthood brings its own set of challenges. You may feel pressure to have a “career” or find your life partner. You may be unsure of making these big life decisions and may feel lost because you no longer have school or other adults in your life telling you what you should choose.
The period of adolescence can be exciting, but also challenging for many teens. Difficulties with friends, school, anxiety, depression, cutting, and substance abuse are all common issues for this group. Due to a lack of life experience, teens may not know how to manage these problems which is why therapy can be especially helpful.
