Hi, I am Andrew Weinberg (he/him), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I received my Master’s degree in Social Work from SUNY Stony Brook’s School of Social Welfare and have been an outpatient therapist since 2003.
I currently offer counseling sessions to individuals aged 21 and older.
Therapy treatment works best when we approach it as a team, with me as your “guide” and you as the active participant working towards change. Through this dynamic, we can create a space for transformation and growth. While on this journey together, we may not always agree or see things the same way. It is not my goal to get you to think like me. Instead, I want you to be able to question/challenge, think, and make decisions for yourself that serve you.
My experience includes working with individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, sexual identity, and gender identity. My style of therapy tends to lean heavily on skills development over processing. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) are the interventions I use in my practice, tailored to your individual needs and goals. If you’re not quite sure what those goals are, I’m here to help guide you in understanding and defining them.
I am a Certified Transgender Care Therapist, and I received my certification from the International Transgender Certification Association in 2018. Given all that life can be, people must have a space to reflect, process, and create meaningful change(s) in their lives. That is the space that I try to provide for people.
I am certified in DBT through Evergreen Certifications and am currently working on becoming certified in Radically Open-Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT)
In our first sessions together, we will use the time to get to know you and to identify your treatment goals. We will explore your relationship with control and the various ways this may arise in your lived experience. This will help us determine which version of DBT will work best for you. Moving forward, we will engage in a variety of skills-building and psychoeducational work aimed at improving your relationship with yourself and others.

Whether you are suffering from panic attacks, obsessive – compulsive disorder, or generalized anxiety we have therapists who use evidenced-based treatments, such as cognitive-bahavioral therapy, to help you.
Caregiving for a loved one can be challenging even in the best of circumstances. Often we don’t think about how the caregiver needs support, too. If you are experiencing burnout, our therapists can teach you skills to help you cope.
Depression and anxiety are extremely common, but often under-diagnosed by medical providers during pregnancy and postpartum. Our providers have specialized training to help women with anxiety and depression in this specific period in their lives.
Depression, one of the most common mental health disorders, is very treatable. Our therapists are specially trained to help individuals with depression get back to feeling like themselves again.
Move Forward Counseling is an inclusive practice where we want the LGBTQIA+ community to feel welcome and supported. Whether you are unsure how to embrace your identity, are having relationship issues, or need extra support from a non-judgmental person, we have therapists who can help.
Life transitions encompass many things, including starting or ending a romantic relationship, changes with work or school or making any big life change, such as a move. Often we underestimate how these changes will affect us emotionally until we find ourselves struggling with the ups and downs of the life transition.
While we don’t provide couples counseling at Move Forward, many individuals seek counseling to discuss how they can have healthier relationships. Our therapists can help you learn new ways of communicating, setting boundaries, and other ways to have more positive relationships with others.
It is important to understand that everyone’s experience with substance use is different; therefore, symptoms and consequences can differ. The levels of treatment also differ based on your usage and whether you seek support for substance use or have been diagnosed with an SUD.
Moving into adulthood brings its own set of challenges. You may feel pressure to have a “career” or find your life partner. You may be unsure of making these big life decisions and may feel lost because you no longer have school or other adults in your life telling you what you should choose.
Trauma symptoms and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can be debilitating for many who experience it. Recovery from trauma is possible and we have therapists who can help.
