Hi! My name is Sarah Lathrop (she/her), and I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) passionate about guiding clients through finding healing, connection, and meaning.
I earned my Bachelors in Health Sciences from Saint Joseph’s University, my Masters in School Counseling from New York University. I also earned my Advanced Certificate in Clinical Counseling from Eastern University.
I believe in creating an accepting and supportive environment where you can move past anxiety and internalized shame to reach a greater understanding of what impacts you. Together, we can work as a team to build a greater understanding of what contributes to your behaviors and develop coping skills to use when in your daily life. Through my life challenges, I bring compassion and understanding to support my clients in their therapy journey.
Prior to entering the therapy career path, I worked in mental health case management, working with the unhoused population in Philadelphia to connect them with physical/mental health and housing resources available. For three years, I worked in school-based mental health services providing in-school therapy for students who displayed challenging behaviors and had a range of disabilities.
I offer therapy to teens (15+) with areas of focus that include ADHD, anxiety, autism, behavioral challenges, depression, Gifted Youths and Adults, LGBTQIA+, trauma and PTSD, and oppositional defiance (ODD).
I have current openings for individuals desiring identity support and parents whose children have recently come out. Additionally, I welcome individuals who are questioning their faith.
I am also specialized in relationships, divorce/separation, personality disorders (PD), self-harm, self-esteem, spirituality, stress, suicidal ideation, and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
I have training and experience in Art Therapy, Children’s Therapy, Play Therapy, Teen/Adolescent Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.
Starting therapy can feel scary and uncomfortable, but you have taken the brave first step of coming to this page, and I would feel honored to walk alongside you through your therapeutic journey.
In our work together, you can expect humor, kindness, and authenticity. I have a deep understanding that this is your journey, and I am here to provide guidance along the way. I tailor each session to your current feelings, understanding that our needs can change from moment to moment.
In our sessions, if you are interested, we can incorporate art, play, and music therapy techniques. I can also incorporate Motivational Interviewing and Strength-Based Therapy practices.
For individuals who want to explore gender and sexuality, I include gender-based counseling practices. You are truly the captain of your therapy journey, and you can expect our sessions to be trauma-informed and culturally sensitive. You set the pace of your journey, and I am here to provide guidance, insight, humor, and a little fun along the way.
I strive to show up as authentically myself with a calming and down-to-earth presence. Our sessions are a sacred space where you can be your authentic self with zero judgment. You will be encouraged to explore your emotions, behaviors, and goals in ways that are true to you. If expressing these things through words is a challenge, we can find a medium that is the best fit for you.
When I am not working, I am often crafting or spending time with my dogs, family, and friends. I am an avid Disney fan and try to find the magic in everyday life. I am also a big hockey and rugby fan and spend my days watching the Bruins, Flyers, or Team USA games.
Healing brings the chance to look at what it means to be our truest selves. I look forward to walking along with you through this process.

Whether you are suffering from panic attacks, obsessive – compulsive disorder, or generalized anxiety we have therapists who use evidenced-based treatments, such as cognitive-bahavioral therapy, to help you.
Depression, one of the most common mental health disorders, is very treatable. Our therapists are specially trained to help individuals with depression get back to feeling like themselves again.
Life transitions encompass many things, including starting or ending a romantic relationship, changes with work or school or making any big life change, such as a move. Often we underestimate how these changes will affect us emotionally until we find ourselves struggling with the ups and downs of the life transition.
While we don’t provide couples counseling at Move Forward, many individuals seek counseling to discuss how they can have healthier relationships. Our therapists can help you learn new ways of communicating, setting boundaries, and other ways to have more positive relationships with others.
Moving into adulthood brings its own set of challenges. You may feel pressure to have a “career” or find your life partner. You may be unsure of making these big life decisions and may feel lost because you no longer have school or other adults in your life telling you what you should choose.
The period of adolescence can be exciting, but also challenging for many teens. Difficulties with friends, school, anxiety, depression, cutting, and substance abuse are all common issues for this group. Due to a lack of life experience, teens may not know how to manage these problems which is why therapy can be especially helpful.
Being a kid can be difficult sometimes. It’s a crucial developmental period of growth and change during which children learn about the world and themselves. This can be overwhelming to some children since many are still learning all the tools and skills to help them cope with their emotions and life’s stressors. This is where therapy can provide support.
