About Joshua Nice

Hi, I’m Josh Nice!

I’m fortunate that one of the ways I stay connected to my hometown is through a helping profession. I’ve worked with families and kids in Lancaster for over 15 years – and I love it! I grew up in a multicultural family that taught me to celebrate people’s differences and see them as strengths that help us grow and get through difficult times. This is one of the values I bring to therapy, and I look forward to learning about your unique gifts and strengths.

Trauma & Life Transitions

My interest is in how trauma and life transitions impact how someone feels about themself and their relationship with the world, significantly as the collective trauma of Covid-19 has affected all of us. Being keenly aware of how some may think or feel about a male therapist based on their intense experiences, I create a safe place for the therapeutic process – it is particularly important to me. Therefore, I take pride in being a calming and non-judgmental presence, having an empathic approach to others, and highlighting person-centered practice and self-determination throughout treatment.

Clinical Skills

Before I graduated from Millersville University with a Masters Degree in Social Work, I honed my clinical skills while pursuing causes related to community needs. Most recently, I’ve worked with families on issues related to trauma, self-harm, attachment struggles, individual and group relationship dynamics, domestic violence, and relational boundaries, and how these factors and mental health symptoms play out in people’s lives.

When I utilized Eco-systemic Structural Family Therapy (ESFT), I supported others facing severe emotional disturbance to develop their skills and change patterns between them and their loved ones, peers, school, or the community affecting well-being and mental health; while not a couples therapist, I have experience and appreciate working with families and subsystems of different ages and stages of life. Additionally, I’ve worked with children and adolescents identifying as part of the LGBTQIA community, who inspire incredible strength and resilience.

Although I have preferred styles and modalities, I take an eclectic approach to treatment and like meeting people where they are and moving at a deliberate pace. Music and art have played a significant role in my life; for example, they open me to a more creative, fluid process. Ultimately, a strengths-based practice and a trusting, collaborative relationship with one another is the biggest key to success.

Techniques we might use together include, but are not limited to, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Music and Art, Solutions Focused, Motivational Interviewing, ESFT (systemic, structural), Attachment-Based interventions, Trauma-Informed Interventions, and Emotion-Focused methods.

About Me

When I’m not a therapist, I’m probably enjoying music, finding a hiking trail, cooking, maybe rooting for a Philly sports team, or seeing my nieces and loved ones. I am passionate about larger social justice and human rights issues that inform how I treat others both in and outside the office. Reach out to learn more and see if we’d be a good match!
