Hello, my name is Hully Hoover, M.Ed., and a Licensed Associate Professional (LAPC) Counselor. I counsel teens (18 and older) and adults in PA.
After more than 33 years of dedicated service in public education, I retired to pursue a long-standing dream: becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. Supporting others through life’s challenges has always been a deeply meaningful part of my work, and I’m honored to continue that commitment in this new chapter of my professional life.
My journey began as a Social Studies teacher after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education. I later returned to graduate school to complete a Master’s degree in Secondary School Counseling, which led to a fulfilling career as a School Counselor.
Over the years, I’ve worked with students at all levels—first as a junior high geography teacher and counselor, then as a high school counselor and K–12 Guidance Department Chair.
I have a deep passion for supporting individuals navigating anxiety, grief, caregiving stress, and major life transitions. I also find great fulfillment in helping parents manage the challenges of raising children in today’s complex world.
In addition, I have a particular interest in the unique experiences of women in midlife—especially those related to shifting family dynamics, caregiving responsibilities, and the emotional and physical impacts of perimenopause and menopause.
I also counsel for grief, health & wellness, parenting issues, relationship issues, self-esteem, sleep problems, and stress.
My counseling approach is warm, collaborative, and rooted in evidence-based practices. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental space where you can explore your experiences, build on your strengths, and work toward healing and growth.
During therapy, I may draw on my experience and training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Strength-Based techniques, tailored to your individual needs.
I’m originally from Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania. My personal experiences have given me a deep empathy for the complexities of life. These life lessons have shaped who I am as a counselor. They’ve deepened my understanding of resilience, compassion, and personal growth—and have fueled my belief in the importance of lifelong learning, which has become a true passion.
Outside of counseling, I enjoy hiking, cycling, weightlifting, reading, and listening to podcasts. I also love exploring new places and take every opportunity to travel and learn from the world around me.

Hully Hoover offers in-person therapy at the State College therapy office and online therapy sessions for anyone in Pennsylvania.
Whether you are suffering from panic attacks, obsessive – compulsive disorder, or generalized anxiety we have therapists who use evidenced-based treatments, such as cognitive-bahavioral therapy, to help you.
Depression, one of the most common mental health disorders, is very treatable. Our therapists are specially trained to help individuals with depression get back to feeling like themselves again.
Life transitions encompass many things, including starting or ending a romantic relationship, changes with work or school or making any big life change, such as a move. Often we underestimate how these changes will affect us emotionally until we find ourselves struggling with the ups and downs of the life transition.
While we don’t provide couples counseling at Move Forward, many individuals seek counseling to discuss how they can have healthier relationships. Our therapists can help you learn new ways of communicating, setting boundaries, and other ways to have more positive relationships with others.
Moving into adulthood brings its own set of challenges. You may feel pressure to have a “career” or find your life partner. You may be unsure of making these big life decisions and may feel lost because you no longer have school or other adults in your life telling you what you should choose.
The period of adolescence can be exciting, but also challenging for many teens. Difficulties with friends, school, anxiety, depression, cutting, and substance abuse are all common issues for this group. Due to a lack of life experience, teens may not know how to manage these problems which is why therapy can be especially helpful.
Caregiving for a loved one can be challenging even in the best of circumstances. Often we don’t think about how the caregiver needs support, too. If you are experiencing burnout, our therapists can teach you skills to help you cope.
